Mixed response to Budget
The response by businesses to this year’s Budget has been muted, with some SMEs praising increased capital expenditure, a reduction in corporation tax and changes to the PAYE system, while others have said the Chancellor did not go far enough to help the UK’s small businesses. Government to simplify and improve employment tribunals
New rules aimed at streamlining the Employment Tribunal process have been announced by Employment Relations Minister Jo Swinson. These changes will make tribunals easier to understand, more efficient and will help weed out weak claims. In November 2011 the government commissioned Mr Justice Underhill, former President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal to lead a fundamental review of the rules of procedure for employment tribunals. Only half of British businesses vet their suppliers for UK Bribery Act compliance
The Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services team at Ernst & Young has released research revealing that nearly half (48 per cent) of British firms are failing to vet their suppliers for compliance with the UK Bribery Act, and that only six per cent would re-tender if they discovered their suppliers were not compliant.
