Minister unveils £1.1 million innovation boost for SMEs

Start-Up firms and SMEs are set to get a £1.1 million innovation boost to help them develop new ideas, improve processes and target new markets. A second wave of Innovation Vouchers are being made available through the Technology Strategy Board. The extra funding is for Innovation Vouchers for businesses who want to use public open data to commercialise their ideas and develop products and prototypes. Olympic month – worst sales growth this year

UK retail sales values were down by 0.4 per cent on a like-for-like basis from August 2011, when they were down 0.6 per cent on the preceding year. On a total basis, sales were up 1.6 per cent, against a 1.5 per cent rise in August 2011. Excluding the Easter anomaly, these were both the lowest since November 2011, driven by particularly weak non-food sales as the feelgood factor from the Olympics failed to inspire spending. London firms to reduce deliveries during Games

New research shows the majority of businesses in central London and around Games venues (59 per cent) are considering ways to reduce deliveries during the London 2012 Games. According to a survey of 1,000 businesses, by Transport for London and London 2012, over a third (37 per cent) are considering stocking up on non-perishable goods, such as stationery, in advance of the Games.
